Alcaraz finds success by moving forward
Carlos Alcaraz beat Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6–3, 6–3 in his opening Shanghai Masters match on October 10. The world No. 3 needed 66 minutes to secure a place in the third round.
Alcaraz struck 24 winners and won 13 of 20 points at the net, according to the tournament’s statistics. He explained afterward that moving forward more frequently was an adjustment made during the match as he settled into the fast conditions.
The victory extended his winning streak to seven following his successful title defence in Tokyo. It continued a recovery that began after a wrist injury kept him away from competition for four and a half months.
Alcaraz had returned at the US Open and reached the quarterfinals before building further momentum in Asia. Shanghai remained one of the Masters 1000 tournaments he had yet to win when he began this campaign.
