Thompson combines inside scoring with defensive activity

Ausar Thompson contributed 10 points, three steals and one block in the Detroit Pistons’ 109–107 preseason victory over the Phoenix Suns at Little Caesars Arena on October 5 US time, October 6 in the Philippines.

Thompson started alongside Cade Cunningham, Duncan Robinson, John Collins and Paul Reed. He played 18 minutes and 18 seconds, adding two rebounds and two assists while making five of eight shots.

All 10 of his points came from two-point field goals. That efficient inside scoring gave Detroit a useful return from a modest number of attempts, even as Phoenix built a substantial first-half lead.

His work at the other end was also visible in the final statistics. Thompson’s three steals and one block formed part of a broader defensive effort that produced 21 steals for Detroit. Ron Holland led that category with five, while Collins added two.

Detroit Bad Boys’ game account also described Thompson taking on ballhandling work. The box score records two assists, although a single preseason appearance is too small a sample to establish how much creation he will handle once the regular season begins.

Thompson was one of four Pistons to finish with exactly 10 points, alongside Cunningham, Collins and Reed. The starting unit did not close out the victory: Detroit’s reserves helped erase an 18-point halftime deficit, and Ebuka Okorie supplied the late winning basket. Thompson’s contribution was a compact opening shift featuring efficient finishing and defensive activity.
