Spain recover after England’s first-half turnaround
Mikel Oyarzabal scored in the 74th minute as Spain beat England 3–2 at Wembley on September 26, opening their UEFA Nations League Group A3 campaign with an away victory. The match took place early on September 27 in Philippine time.
Spain led almost immediately through Lamine Yamal’s second-minute goal, but England changed the direction of the first half with two goals in four minutes. Anthony Gordon equalised in the 36th minute from a Jude Bellingham pass before Harry Kane put the hosts ahead in the 40th.
England had an opportunity to extend that advantage after the interval when Rodri fouled Bellingham in the penalty area. Kane failed to convert the resulting spot-kick.
Álex Baena brought Spain level in the 60th minute. Oyarzabal then completed the comeback, leaving England without a point from their opening group fixture.
England’s next scheduled Nations League match is away to Czechia on September 29 at 7.45 p.m. British Summer Time, or 2.45 a.m. on September 30 in the Philippines. An away meeting with Croatia follows on October 3, before England host Czechia on October 6.
