Two forwards return to Liverpool for medical assessment
Liverpool are assessing Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak after both forwards withdrew from international duty during the September window. The club confirmed Gakpo’s departure from the Netherlands squad on September 28, a day after announcing Isak’s return from Sweden.
Gakpo sustained an ankle injury in the Netherlands’ 2–1 win over Serbia on September 27 and was substituted during the first half. Liverpool said he would miss the Dutch team’s remaining two fixtures of the international period and return to the AXA Training Centre for further assessment.
Isak’s issue was described by Liverpool as a minor injury. The September 27 statement said he would miss Sweden’s three remaining matches in the window and undergo assessment by the club’s medical staff.
The statements did not provide a fixed return-to-play date for either forward. Their withdrawal confirms that they will not complete the international programme, while their availability for Liverpool remains dependent on those assessments.
