Luka Dončić says his hamstring recovery is complete as Lakers camp begins, with a larger leadership role following LeBron James’ departure.

Luka Dončić Returns Healthy and Embraces Lakers Leadership

Dončić enters camp without hamstring restrictions

Luka Dončić said he is healthy and has no restrictions as the Los Angeles Lakers opened their season preparations with media day in El Segundo on Monday, September 28. The guard is also embracing a larger leadership role following LeBron James’ departure.

Dončić’s previous campaign ended with a left hamstring strain that kept him out of the Lakers’ postseason. Speaking to reporters, he said he had taken his return to court gradually and now felt rested and ready for training camp, according to Lakers Nation.

The health update removes an immediate question about his ability to take part in preparations. It does not guarantee uninterrupted availability throughout the season, but it establishes that he is entering camp without the restrictions he was asked about at media day.

Dončić described leadership as a challenge he welcomes. The responsibility comes as Los Angeles builds around him and works to establish continuity under coach JJ Redick. Austin Reaves remains part of that core, with camp providing the first sustained opportunity to develop the new group’s on-court connections.

For the Lakers, the next evidence will come through practices and preseason games. Dončić’s comments give the team a healthy starting point, while the work ahead will determine how its reshaped roster functions around its leading ball-handler.
