Detroit wins in Miami as Duren and Thompson leave early
John Collins scored 23 points as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Miami Heat 128–111 at Kaseya Center on Friday, October 23. The victory, completed October 24 in Philippine time, gave Detroit a 2–0 start despite early exits for Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson.
Paul Reed supplied 19 points off the bench, Duncan Robinson added 17 and Cade Cunningham finished with 16. Detroit led throughout and built a 103–80 advantage by the end of the third quarter.
Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded 36 points and 12 rebounds for Miami, with Davion Mitchell adding 18. The individual production could not offset another difficult defensive performance, as the Heat fell to 0–2.
Duren played only 10 first-half minutes before leaving with a right thigh issue. Thompson exited in the third quarter following an awkward fall. The Associated Press reported that both were due for further evaluation Saturday; the immediate postgame information did not establish a return date for either player.
The Pistons’ scoring depth allowed them to complete the win despite those absences. Miami’s next task is Charlotte on Saturday, while Detroit continues its road trip in Philadelphia on Sunday, using the U.S. schedule.
For Detroit, the result and the availability questions now sit alongside each other. The team has two victories, but its next lineup depends in part on those evaluations.
