Golden State confirms a new deal for Curry
Stephen Curry has signed a contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, the team announced on September 25 in California, September 26 in the Philippines. USA TODAY Sports reported that the agreement is worth $116 million over two years and includes a player option for the 2028–29 season.
The Warriors confirmed the signing without publishing financial terms. The reported value and option therefore remain attributed contract details, rather than figures disclosed by the team.
Curry, 38, is preparing for his 18th NBA season. The new agreement extends a relationship that began when Golden State selected him seventh overall in the 2009 draft. He has won four championships and two regular-season MVP awards with the franchise.
The deal resolves one of the Warriors’ major questions before the new season. Curry had been approaching the final year of his existing contract and could otherwise have reached free agency in July 2027, according to USA TODAY Sports.
The 2028–29 player option would leave the decision on that final season with Curry. It should not be read as a retirement announcement: the confirmed development is that Golden State has secured an extension, with the reported structure allowing its longest-serving star a later choice about the end of the agreement.
