Sweden pull clear after Poland’s first-half equaliser
Sweden beat Poland 3–1 at Strawberry Arena in Solna on September 28, with Viktor Gyökeres scoring the final goal as Graham Potter’s side made it two wins from two in the Nations League.
Benjamin Nygren put the hosts ahead in the ninth minute, but Poland responded before the interval. Sebastian Szymański’s 43rd-minute equaliser left the teams level at halftime.
The decisive passage came after the break. Yasin Ayari restored Sweden’s lead in the 64th minute, and Gyökeres added the third eight minutes later following a pass from Patrik Wålemark.
Poland’s federation reported that the visitors had created chances during the first half, including efforts from Piotr Zieliński and Matty Cash. Sweden goalkeeper Viktor Johansson helped keep the home side in the contest before their stronger second-half display.
Sweden lead League B Group 4 with six points. Bosnia and Herzegovina have four, Poland one and Romania none after the second round. Gyökeres has now scored in both of Sweden’s opening matches, following the 2–1 victory over Romania.
Sweden travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 2, the European fixture date. That meeting brings together the group’s top two teams, with Sweden carrying a two-point advantage.
