A piece of the Bulls’ final title run sets a new mark
Michael Jordan’s jersey from Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $12.26 million through JOOPITER on September 29, setting a new public-auction record for an NBA jersey. The result surpassed the approximately $10.1 million paid in 2022 for his jersey from Game 1 of the same series.
The white Chicago Bulls jersey was worn against the Utah Jazz at the United Center on June 7, 1998. Jordan scored 24 points as Chicago won 96–54 and took a 2–1 lead in the series, according to JOOPITER’s description of the item.
Chicago went on to secure the championship in six games. It was Jordan’s sixth NBA title and the last championship of his Bulls career, giving the jersey a direct connection to the season later documented in The Last Dance.
JOOPITER had valued the item at between $10 million and $15 million before the sale. The final amount fell within that range while establishing a new high for NBA game-worn jerseys.
The basketball record is distinct from the record across all sports. Babe Ruth’s 1932 World Series jersey sold for $24.12 million in 2024, a higher price than the Jordan sale.
