Celtics Extend Payton Pritchard on Reported $44.2 Million Deal

Boston extends a guard whose role keeps growing

The Boston Celtics and Payton Pritchard have agreed to a two-year contract extension reportedly worth $44.2 million, according to NBA.com News Services and ESPN reporting cited by Hoops Wire on October 13. The development reached Philippine readers on October 14.

The agreement adds to Pritchard’s existing deal, which runs through 2028. It includes a mutual option for the 2029–30 season, so the final year should not be described as an unconditional commitment regardless of the choices made by both sides.

Pritchard, 28, is coming off the most productive season of his NBA career. He averaged 17 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 32.3 minutes per game in 2025–26, with all four figures representing career highs.

Boston selected him 26th overall in the 2020 draft out of Oregon. He contributed to the Celtics’ 2024 championship and won the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2025, before taking on a larger workload last season.

His scoring rose from 9.3 points per game in 2023–24 to 14.3 in 2024–25 and then 17 last season. That progression provides the basketball context for the new agreement: Boston is retaining a guard whose responsibilities have expanded beyond his earlier bench role.

The reported dollar figure and option terms come from published reporting. The extension concerns Pritchard’s future in Boston; it is not a trade or a change of team.
