Orlando faces an extension decision with its core under contract
Anthony Black and the Orlando Magic are unlikely to agree to an extension before the October 19 deadline, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, as summarized by RealGM.
The report says the two sides had not held serious extension discussions during the offseason or the opening stages of training camp. That describes the state of negotiations, rather than a final decision to end them.
Black averaged 15 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 64 games last season. He played 29.8 minutes per game, three seasons after Orlando selected him sixth overall in the 2023 draft.
The Magic already have significant long-term commitments to Desmond Bane, Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero. Another extension would have to fit within that broader payroll picture.
If no agreement is reached, Black could move toward restricted free agency in 2027. Missing an extension deadline would not itself remove him from Orlando’s roster or amount to a trade announcement. The immediate question remains whether negotiations change before the deadline.
