Washington limits its young big man during rehabilitation
The Washington Wizards announced on October 1 that Tristan Vukčević has sustained a left hip impingement and will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks. The forward-center will continue to participate in part of training camp while completing rehabilitation work.
The update means Washington cannot yet count on Vukčević for unrestricted preparation. It also separates two different milestones: a medical review in four weeks and an eventual return to game action. The team’s stated review interval does not guarantee that he will be cleared at its conclusion.
Vukčević, 23, averaged 9.0 points and 3.0 rebounds across 49 appearances last season. He shot 47.9 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from three-point range, providing Washington with a big man who can contribute away from the basket.
His restricted availability affects the depth behind Alex Sarr and Deandre Ayton. RotoWire reported that Ayton should have the backup-center responsibility while Vukčević remains unavailable for games, although Washington’s rotation can still develop during camp.
The immediate focus is rehabilitation and the next assessment. The Wizards have announced a review timetable, with a firm game-return date still to be established.
