Zverev sets up a semifinal against Davidovich Fokina
Alexander Zverev reached the Shanghai Masters semifinals with a 6–4, 6–4 victory over Alex de Minaur on October 15. The German completed the quarterfinal in 78 minutes and will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Saturday, October 17.
Zverev took the decisive break at 2–2 in the first set, then saved three break points in his next service game. That hold protected an advantage he carried through to the end of the set.
A similar pattern shaped the second set. Zverev saved two break points to level at 3–3, broke De Minaur in the following game and retained control through the finish.
According to the tournament’s report, Zverev struck 10 aces and won 35 of 44 points behind his first serve. He did not surrender a service game, converting his two key opportunities while denying De Minaur all five break chances.
It is Zverev’s third Shanghai semifinal and his first since 2019. Davidovich Fokina secured the other place in their semifinal when Arthur Gea retired while trailing 4–1 in the opening set. The pair will now compete for a place in the championship match.
