Thunder Confirm Cason Wallace Extension After Reported Five-Year $139 Million Agreement

Oklahoma City retains a key perimeter defender

The Oklahoma City Thunder confirmed on October 19 that Cason Wallace had signed a multiyear contract extension, resolving his contract situation just before the new NBA season. The team announcement was released early on October 20 in Philippine time.

Oklahoma City did not publish the terms. Reports from ESPN and other outlets placed the agreement at five years and $139 million. It is a completed extension, advancing the story beyond the earlier reports of negotiations between the Thunder and the guard.

Wallace earned a place on the 2025–26 NBA All-Defensive Second Team after a season in which he led the league with 150 total steals and 339 deflections. Those totals underline the defensive contribution behind the new agreement.

He appeared in 77 regular-season games and started 58, averaging career highs of 8.6 points, 2.6 assists and about 1.9 steals, along with 3.1 rebounds. His value to Oklahoma City extended beyond scoring, particularly through disrupting opposing possessions on the perimeter.

The Kentucky product was the 10th selection in the 2023 draft. In his first three NBA seasons, he played 227 regular-season games for the Thunder, averaging 7.9 points while shooting 37.4 percent from three-point range.

By reaching an agreement before the rookie-extension deadline, Oklahoma City avoided taking Wallace into the next offseason without a longer-term deal. The immediate focus now returns to basketball as the Thunder begin their regular season against San Antonio on October 20 in the United States.
