Oklahoma City confirms a season-long absence
Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Otega Oweh will miss the 2026–27 NBA season after undergoing surgery for a ruptured right Achilles tendon. The Thunder announced the update on October 14 in the United States, following the guard’s injury in the October 13 preseason game against the Indiana Pacers.
The announcement was made on October 15 in Philippine time. This is a confirmed season-long absence, rather than a day-to-day injury designation or a decision to rest Oweh during the remaining exhibitions.
RotoWire reported that Oweh left the Indiana game after a non-contact injury. He was selected with the 41st overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and had been preparing for his first NBA campaign.
The timing means his introduction to regular-season NBA competition will be delayed. Oklahoma City will proceed through the coming season without him available to earn minutes, while his immediate focus shifts from training-camp competition to recovery.
No confirmed date for a return to games has been announced. Potential participation in future offseason events remains dependent on his progress and should not be treated as an established timetable. Further information about his availability will require a subsequent medical update.
