Thunder await recovery timetables after two surgical diagnoses
Oklahoma City Thunder players Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace will both require surgery after injuries suffered against the Los Angeles Clippers, general manager Sam Presti announced in Oklahoma City on Monday, October 26. The update was reported on Tuesday morning, October 27, Philippine time.
Williams was diagnosed with a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle. Wallace has a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Presti said recovery timetables would be established after their operations, leaving both players without confirmed return dates.
The announcement followed Oklahoma City's 108–101 home victory over the Clippers on Sunday, October 25. Williams was injured on a drive to the basket with 1 minute, 14 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and left Paycom Center on a stretcher. Wallace had exited earlier with the shoulder injury.
Sunday’s win was Oklahoma City’s third in as many games, but the medical update changes the immediate outlook for their rotation. Williams provides scoring and playmaking alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, while Wallace is an important option for defending opposing guards. Their absences remove contributors at both ends of the court.
Williams had already endured a disrupted 2025–26 campaign. He appeared in 33 regular-season games and averaged 17.1 points and 5.5 assists, with a hamstring problem also affecting his availability during the Western Conference finals. The latest injury creates another interruption after his return for the new season.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported that both players could miss several months and potentially most or all of the season. That remains a reported outlook rather than a team-confirmed end to either player's campaign. The next firm medical milestone is surgery, after which Oklahoma City expects to provide more information about their recoveries.
