Nuggets Add Ryan Nembhard on Two-Way Deal and Waive KJ Simpson

Denver brings another ball-handler into its roster

The Denver Nuggets added Ryan Nembhard on a two-way contract on September 30 and waived KJ Simpson to create room, according to the Denver Gazette. The move gives Denver another young guard with experience running an NBA offense.

Nembhard, 23, played 60 games for Dallas as a rookie, including 23 starts. He averaged 6.6 points, 5.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds. His season included a December 1 performance in Denver in which he scored 28 points and supplied 10 assists without a turnover.

The signing follows a busy offseason. Dallas sent Nembhard to Atlanta before the Hawks moved him to Charlotte in the transaction involving Buddy Hield and Dorian Finney-Smith. Charlotte then waived him, allowing Denver to add him once he cleared waivers.

Sportsnet reported that the Canadian guard also recorded 23 assists against Chicago on April 12. His distribution is the clearest statistical basis for Denver’s interest in adding another ball-handler.

Nembhard joins Bryce Hopkins and Cam Whitmore among the Nuggets’ two-way players, the Denver Gazette reported. Jamal Murray and Tyus Jones provide other point-guard options as the team works through camp. The two-way agreement establishes his place in the organization without promising a regular rotation role.
