Spurs Rest Wembanyama and Several Regulars Against Jazz

San Antonio’s absence list combines rest and injury management

Victor Wembanyama was among several San Antonio Spurs regulars ruled out for the October 12 preseason game against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. The fixture fell on the morning of October 13 in the Philippines.

Wembanyama’s absence was part of the team’s planned preseason rest rather than a newly reported injury. Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell and Malik Williams were also among the players unavailable for the game.

Other absences involved existing health issues. Carter Bryant was dealing with an ankle problem, De’Aaron Fox with a hip issue and Tobias Harris with a calf injury. Jayden Quaintance remained in rehabilitation following knee surgery, according to the San Antonio Express-News report carried by Yahoo Sports.

Those distinctions matter when assessing the lineup. Resting for one exhibition does not, by itself, indicate an injury or establish a player’s availability for the regular-season opener.

The reduced group left San Antonio with more preseason minutes to distribute among available players. Bryant was expected back for the Wednesday, October 14, matchup with Phoenix, according to the report, but that expectation remained subject to an updated availability decision.
