Opening-week honors recognize Memphis and Philadelphia guards
The NBA named Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome and Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey its Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week on Monday, October 26. The awards cover October 20–25, the opening week of the 2026–27 regular season, and were announced overnight into October 27 in the Philippines.
Jerome averaged 34.7 points and six assists while shooting 56.3 percent from the field. Memphis won all three games during that award period, giving the guard both a strong individual scoring record and a successful team start.
His 104 points across those three appearances made him the second player in Grizzlies history to reach 100 points in the opening three games of a season, according to the NBA. The award recognizes that sustained production across the week, rather than a single high-scoring outing.
Maxey averaged 28.8 points, four rebounds and 4.8 assists as Philadelphia went 3–1. His scoring and playmaking placed him at the center of the Sixers' early results and earned him the first Eastern Conference weekly honor of the new campaign.
The league also considered several other prominent guards. Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, Anthony Edwards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were among the Western nominees. Cade Cunningham and Tyrese Haliburton were among those nominated in the East.
The records and averages attached to these awards stop at October 25. They describe the completed award window and should not be read as live season totals as the NBA's second week gets underway.
