Golden State builds its lead before the Lakers can settle
The Golden State Warriors scored 81 points before halftime and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 124–98 in a preseason game at Chase Center on October 6. Yaxel Lendeborg led Golden State with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Stephen Curry and Brandin Podziemski each scored 16. The result was completed on October 7 in Philippine time.
Golden State opened with a 45–31 first quarter and followed it with 36 points in the second. Its 81–53 halftime advantage gave the Warriors a 28-point cushion. The Lakers won the third quarter 22–15, reducing the deficit to 96–75, before Golden State closed with a 28–23 fourth period.
The Warriors never trailed and their largest lead reached 38 points. Their first-half output proved decisive even as the scoring slowed after the break and the rotations changed. They finished with 32 assists on 41 made field goals, compared with 20 assists for the Lakers.
Curry made four of seven shots, including three of six from three-point range, and converted five of six free throws. He added five assists without a turnover in 14 minutes and 19 seconds. Draymond Green scored three points but recorded eight assists in 14 minutes and 52 seconds, providing playmaking during another short starting shift.
Lendeborg shot seven for 11 from the field and made two of his three attempts from beyond the arc. His nine rebounds were the most by any player in the game. Podziemski made seven of 11 field-goal attempts in 19 minutes and 27 seconds, while Gui Santos supplied seven points from the starting lineup.
Golden State's reserves contributed 65 points. Brandon Williams scored 10, De'Anthony Melton added nine and Georges Niang had seven. Charles Bassey supplied four points, six rebounds and three blocks. The bench output helped preserve the lead after the early work by Curry and the opening unit.
Sandro Mamukelashvili led Los Angeles with 15 points on six-of-10 shooting, including three three-pointers. Quentin Grimes scored 12 as a starter. Jaden Hardy added 13 from the bench, Dalton Knecht finished with 11, and Cole Swider scored nine on three made threes. Bronny James started at guard and recorded four points and five assists in 20 minutes and 58 seconds.
The Warriors shot 51.3 percent overall and made 15 of 35 three-pointers. The Lakers finished at 39.8 percent from the field and 13 of 37 from three. Golden State also held a 48–36 advantage in points in the paint and made 27 free throws to Los Angeles' 19, giving it scoring advantages across several areas.
The available personnel mattered. Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and Walker Kessler were among the Lakers listed as not playing by coach's decision. Golden State also listed Jimmy Butler III, Al Horford, Moses Moody and Kristaps Porziņģis as DNPs by coach's decision. The game therefore offered a look at selected combinations and reserve roles, rather than either team's complete regular-season rotation. Within that setting, Golden State's early passing, shooting and scoring volume established a lead the Lakers could not erase.
