Jaylen Brown Scores 22 in Efficient Sixers Preseason Debut

Brown delivers his scoring before halftime

Jaylen Brown scored 22 points in 16 minutes and 51 seconds as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the New York Knicks 120–97 at Xfinity Mobile Arena on October 5 US time, October 6 in the Philippines.

Brown made eight of 13 field-goal attempts and three of five three-pointers in his Sixers preseason debut. He also converted three free throws, collected two rebounds, handed out two assists and blocked one shot without recording a turnover.

His scoring came before halftime. Brown had 13 points in the opening quarter and reached 22 by the break, when Philadelphia led 72–58. He did not need a second-half appearance to finish as the game’s leading scorer.

The range of his scoring is clear from the box score. Removing his five three-point attempts leaves a five-for-eight performance inside the arc. The combination of those two-point baskets, three made threes and trips to the foul line allowed him to score efficiently without an extended workload.

Philadelphia started Brown with VJ Edgecombe, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Dean Wade and Ariel Hukporti. LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey did not play, so this was not yet a demonstration of how the Sixers’ full group will share possessions.

It was, however, a productive first preseason scoring performance in his new uniform. Philadelphia also received 15 points from Caleb Love and 12 from Edgecombe, ensuring Brown’s early offense was supported after he left the game.
