VAR confirms the winner before Madrid lose a player
Yan Diomande’s first Real Madrid goal secured a 1–0 La Liga victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 10 in Spain, early October 11 in the Philippines. Madrid protected the lead after Vinícius Júnior was sent off.
The breakthrough arrived in the 62nd minute. Federico Valverde played Diomande through, and the forward finished across the goalkeeper. An initial offside decision was overturned following a video review.
Vinícius later put the ball in the net, but that effort was cancelled after another review. The Brazilian received a straight red card for an incident with William Saliba during the move.
Villarreal could not turn the numerical advantage into an equaliser. Thibaut Courtois made important saves, including a late stop from Romero, while Madrid continued to threaten on the counter.
The result delivered three points in Madrid’s first league match after the international break.
