Philadelphia creates separation in the second quarter
The Philadelphia 76ers beat the New York Knicks 120–97 at Xfinity Mobile Arena on October 5 US time, October 6 in the Philippines, with Jaylen Brown scoring 22 points in his Sixers preseason debut.
Philadelphia led by only one point after the opening quarter, 33–32, before winning the second period 39–26. The resulting 72–58 halftime lead gave the Sixers control, and they added another nine points to the margin in the fourth quarter.
Six Philadelphia players finished in double figures. Brown led the way, followed by Caleb Love with 15 and VJ Edgecombe with 12. Jabari Walker, Dillon Jones and Saint Thomas each scored 11. Walker and Thomas also recorded double-doubles, collecting 11 and 10 rebounds respectively.
Three-point shooting produced a substantial difference. Philadelphia made 16 of 46 attempts, while New York finished eight for 41. That gave the Sixers a 24-point advantage from beyond the arc, although both teams shot below 43 percent overall.
Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby each scored 12 points for New York. The Knicks used 20 players, with no one playing 18 minutes, making this a broad preseason evaluation rather than a standard regular-season rotation.
LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey did not appear for Philadelphia. Their absence did not prevent the Sixers from recording 29 assists and getting production from several reserves, but it also means this result offered only a partial look at their full roster.
