Golden State takes control after halftime
The Golden State Warriors erased a 20-point deficit and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 101–89 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Tuesday, October 13. Brandin Podziemski and Yaxel Lendeborg scored 17 points apiece in the preseason game, which took place on Wednesday morning in the Philippines.
Los Angeles led 63–50 at halftime after a 34-point second quarter. Golden State changed the direction of the game by holding the Lakers to 13 points in each of the final two periods. The Warriors won the second half 51–26 and the fourth quarter 29–13.
The Lakers still held a 76–72 advantage entering the final period, but their offense could not match Golden State’s finish. A game that had briefly given Los Angeles a 20-point cushion ended with the Warriors ahead by 12, their largest lead of the night.
Podziemski made six of 12 shots, including three three-pointers, and collected five rebounds. Lendeborg added five rebounds and four assists to his 17 points, with six of his points coming at the free-throw line. Stephen Curry scored 11 and made three of his seven attempts from beyond the arc.
De’Anthony Melton supplied six steals for Golden State, while Charles Bassey finished with eight points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. Will Richard contributed nine points on three-for-four shooting from three-point range.
Austin Reaves led the Lakers with 28 points and seven assists. He shot 10-for-18 from the field and four-for-seven from three. Walker Kessler added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Sandro Mamukelashvili and Jaden Hardy each scored 10.
Neither team finished above 44 percent from the field. Golden State made 14 three-pointers to the Lakers’ nine and outscored Los Angeles 21–14 at the free-throw line. Those advantages accounted for the final margin despite both teams recording 33 made field goals.
The second-half response gave Golden State another exhibition win over Los Angeles after its earlier 124–98 victory. Both games were preseason contests, so the results do not count toward the regular-season standings.
