Golden State revises its plan for contact with the sidelined center
The Golden State Warriors said on Wednesday, October 21, that Kristaps Porziņģis was no longer expected to spend time around the team in the immediate future while dealing with a health matter. The announcement was reported on October 22 and remains an ongoing update as of October 23 in the Philippines.
A week earlier, Golden State had outlined a plan for the center to stay connected with staff and teammates while unavailable to play. The newer statement changed that arrangement without announcing a return date.
Coach Steve Kerr offered no further explanation for the change. The club also declined to address speculation about Porziņģis' future, so its statement should not be treated as confirmation of a trade or retirement.
The practical effect is that Golden State continues to prepare without a player it had expected to use in its starting lineup. After the Warriors' 127–105 opening loss to the Lakers, Kerr acknowledged that Porziņģis' absence was a significant loss for the team.
Availability around the team and clearance to play are separate steps. A visit to the facility would not itself establish readiness for competition; remaining away likewise does not provide a medical timetable. The next meaningful update will be a confirmed statement about his status or return to team activities.
