Golden State awaits the next update before its opener
Stephen Curry left the Golden State Warriors’ open practice at Chase Center on October 18 after hurting his right ankle, but coach Steve Kerr offered reassurance after speaking with him in the training room. The incident came days before Golden State’s regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers.
NBC Sports Bay Area reported that Curry sustained a sprained right ankle. Initial concern among observers centred on his knee, but the team identified the ankle as the problem. Kerr said Curry told him he was fine and described him as being in good spirits after the session.
The sequence interrupted a public practice in San Francisco. Curry stopped while handling the ball, favoured his right leg and eventually walked back toward the locker room. The visible discomfort prompted concern, although Kerr’s subsequent comments were more reassuring than the initial images suggested.
Golden State had already been managing Curry’s workload through training camp and preseason. He played fewer than 18 minutes per game in the exhibition schedule, according to NBC Sports Bay Area, as the team worked toward having him ready for the start of the season.
Kerr’s assessment is encouraging, but it is not a formal game-status designation. The useful next indicators are Curry’s participation in subsequent practices and the Warriors’ official availability update ahead of their opener.
Golden State is scheduled to visit the Lakers on Wednesday, October 21, in the United States. For the Warriors, the immediate priority is establishing how Curry’s ankle responds after the practice incident rather than drawing conclusions from the brief scare alone.
